A growing plant is layered over the artwork of a human brain

Coming from a complete B2C backdrop, stepping into the world of IT consulting felt like navigating an alien landscape. The marketing strategies, the audience, the language — it was all a nuisance (if that makes sense). At first it felt on a lead would feel in a vast ocean clueless floating around.

But here’s the thing: newness might be scary, but it’s not something that should stop you. It’s an opportunity to unlearn, relearn, and grow into a more versatile marketer.

Now, you may ask: Why IT and B2B after spending so long in the B2C world? Well, the answer is simple — I LOVE CHALLENGES. Yes, the transition was daunting. The strategies, the audience, the pace — it felt like starting from scratch.

But here I am writing about how to survive and ace it from my perspective.

Take it slow

Now here is the thing about IT- things are crazy here. New innovation and techs are popping up everyday someone needs to stop these developers. But honestly I feel as much as the world is moving at a fast pace does not mean you have to. The foundation is all that will help you sustain take your sweet time, don’t bother to get it all done. At the end remember tortoise won the race not rabbit 😜

Have your tech team as your backbone

It is going to feel daunting at first- Picture this for a min: You are staring at a screen sitting on a random workday thinking about marketing strategies about a product, you have no clue about. And trust me- DON’T DO THAT!

Here’s the secret sauce: you don’t have to figure it out alone.

The tech folks might seem intimidatingly smart (because they are), but they’re also incredibly helpful. All you need to do is ask.

ChatGpt is your best friend!

No matter how much handholding or spoon-feeding you get, at the end of the day, it’s your learning and unlearning that make all the difference. It’s the effort you put into understanding, exploring, and working on something unfamiliar that truly counts.

And let’s face it — when you’re navigating uncharted waters, ChatGPT becomes your secret weapon- or atleast it did for me.

Have your people- I mean marketing people!

As much as IT folks can be helpful (and they truly are!), you also need someone who gets your world — the world of marketing.

Having peers in your domain is invaluable. They bring a fresh perspective, help you understand challenges from a marketing standpoint, and share strategies that have worked for them. Whether it’s brainstorming campaign ideas, decoding a confusing KPI, or just venting about your latest struggle, a marketing buddy can be a lifesaver.

Stalking skills are game changer

Let’s be honest — we’ve all stalked a hater or ex on social media at some point (no shame in that). But here’s the twist: that very skill can be your secret weapon in marketing. Let’s put to some real use. When I began my journey in this world- I was in front of computer screen for hours and no not working just staring competitors. Their websites, their campaigns, their blogs, their social media posts — I analyzed it all.

And to conclude well I don’t really have a lot to say than- you got it! Everyone starts somewhere, so don’t be too hard on yourself take it slow, process it all, ask for help, talk to people and you will be on this side writing about it like me today. But whatever you do- DON’T GIVE UP!
