Social Lab Discovery

Debrief

Oral Genome, a US-based biotech company, is pioneering saliva-based diagnostic tests that deliver results for conditions like dental diseases and diabetes in just 15 minutes—no lab required. Their mobile-enabled platform empowers clinicians to detect risks early and provide preventive care at the point of need.

When scaling up, they faced two pressing goals: revamping their Provider Portal for clinicians and delivering a white-labeled mobile app with redesigns for one of their largest customers. They partnered with us to fast-track development, improve code maintainability, and ensure the product was launch-ready ahead of schedule.

Background

Why modernizing the platform mattered.

The global digital diagnostics market is expected to reach USD 3.23 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of over 18.08%. With preventive healthcare and early detection driving this momentum, saliva-based testing is emerging as a breakthrough area due to its speed, accuracy, and non-invasive nature.

Oral Genome’s technology is at the forefront of this shift. To seize the opportunity, they needed a scalable and customizable platform, one that could support clinicians, adapt to customer requirements, and maintain a rapid development pace without sacrificing quality.

Challenges

What we anticipated along the journey.

While their project-level code organization was strong, the lack of structured file-level organization made onboarding difficult and slowed feature delivery.

Design coordination emerged as a key hurdle. An external agency handled UI/UX but frequently updated designs without notifying the dev team, causing rework.

Additional hurdles included:

  1. Creating customizable white labeled app configurations for clients.
  2. Implementing Single Sign-On (SSO) for a seamless clinician experience.
  3. Balancing manual QA for the Provider Portal with automated testing for the mobile app.
  4. Navigating delays from an outsourced design agency, which often provided updates late or without prior notice.

At the heart of it all was their primary business goal: achieving a faster go-to-market timeline.

Our Approach

Building for scalability and speed.

We began by auditing Oral Genome’s app and portal codebase to identify structural improvements. Our research focused on three pillars:

  1. Reusability: Refactoring components into modular, reusable widgets to streamline development.
  2. Code Clarity: Improving file-level organization to make the system easier to understand, onboard, and extend.
  3. Collaboration: Proposing regular checkpoints with the design team to reduce miscommunication and keep development aligned with evolving design inputs.

Solution

How we delivered a faster, more reliable platform.

We partnered with Oral Genome to rebuild their digital experience with scalability, maintainability, and speed at the core.

White-label Architecture

We implemented a “flavor”-based approach in Flutter, enabling multiple branded versions of the app (including custom UI) from a single codebase, reducing duplication and simplifying future updates.

Unified Authentication

Integrated Single Sign-On (SSO) via AWS Amplify to provide secure, seamless access across the Provider Portal and mobile apps.

Codebase Modernization

Restructured file organization and refactored components for reusability, dramatically improving readability and onboarding efficiency.

End-to-End Quality Assurance

Conducted comprehensive manual QA of the React-based Provider Portal while building a robust automated UI test suite for the mobile app using Appium.

Though initially scoped for mobile enhancements, our engagement expanded to include frontend development for the Provider Portal and select backend integrations, demonstrating our ability to flex with client needs.

The Impact

Built with precision. Delivered ahead of time.

Impact Area 1 Impact Area 2

Delivered 2 months ahead of schedule

Completed all development by September 2025, well before the November 2025 go-live target, with QA wrapping up in parallel.

Future-ready architecture (POC)

The new white label system allows Oral Genome to onboard new partners with minimal engineering effort.
Improved team velocity

Cleaner code structure in the mobile app made it easier to read and maintain and accelerated feature development, helping the team onboard more easily.
White-Labeling Done Right

Built and delivered a fully customized, branded mobile experience that positions Oral Genome for rapid rollout across enterprise partners.
